Degrowth Together presents Community Living in Keuruu : living a simpler life We are facing a sustainability crisis, a crisis where people are trying to master the world and nature through science and an ever-growing focus on economic growth but which is only leading to more environmental destruction and inequalities. Degrowth has been proposed as part of the solution to this sustainability crisis. Degrowth states that we should give up the narrow focus on economic growth and instead focus on how we could live better, more happily by producing and consuming less. Today we will discuss with Fanny Torro who has chosen to live a simpler, more local life closer to nature at Keuruu Ecovillage. Keuruu Ecovillage is village community in the middle of the Finnish countryside. The aim of the village is to promote an ecologically and socially sustainable lifestyle in all areas of life. Food is grown organically, what cannot be produced at the village is bought locally, and the village is energy self-sufficient. Ecovillages can be seen as a form of local organising for degrowth and today with Fanny we will talk about how this sustainable organising and degrowth is done in practice. We will talk about the required mindset and practical challenges of living in a community, and especially the need for a holistic view and respect towards others including nature. **This material was produced by students in the course Sustainable Organising at Hanken School of Economics in the spring term of 2022.
